Behold, the most splendid Friday night of live music Sydney has ever offered up
Can you remember a time when we had THREE 'featured' shows on a single night'?
In fact, you need to go all the way back to September 2001 (pre-internet days when this website was written on a single A4 page and photocopied out to the masses) for the last occurrence of such a phenomena. On that particular Wednesday evening the trio of shows included Phil Collins playing at The Basement, Dr Dre playing a 'secret' show in the Stanmore McDonalds carpark AND Bit By Bats playing at Spectrum.
While TONIGHT's trio of entertainment options might not quite match up to that epic evening of pleasure (remember Bit By Bats?? Fuck!) BUT it's really damn close...
Spunk Single's Launch @ Hopetoun Hotel
In case you didn't 'get' this post, we think Leader Cheetah are a pretty incredible band. To make it even sweeter they will be joined at the launch by The Middle East, megastick fanfare (who I have been trying to catch since forever) AND The Maple Trail. Tickets are $16 on the door or $14 presale via Moshtix.
Naked On The Vague
Naked On The Vague fundraiser @ Serial Space
The Sydney DIY duo are hosting a show to raise money for their upcoming pilgrimage to the US. While in the ol' You Es Of Ay the group are planning to play at SXSW and also touring with Blank Dogs. They will be joined tonight by an array of awesome Sydney artists - Holy Balm, Justice Yeldham, Red Pinkos and Bed Wettin' Bad Boys. The show costs just $10 and kicks off around 7pm.
SPOD @ World Bar
You know it's a BIG night in Sydney town when one of our favourite entertainment machinezz and THE inaugural Person Of The Year winner is our third option. SPOD is expected to not get on stage until around midnight so there is the option (as discussed here) to go to one of these other shows and still catch his performance. If you chose that option, however, you will more than likely miss the fantastic support cast - Jordy Lane, Cuthbert and the Nightwalkers, The Waysiders and We Say Bamboulee. Tough call all 'round.

I don't want to overstate it, but they may be the greatest things you've ever seen in your life ever and may ever see. I have no idea how, when or why we will wear them, it will be a glorious catastrophe.
if you see me, say hi! I'm always blind at these things, I never recognise anyone... I will be hard to miss though.

arghh... only just surfaced now..
leader cheetah show was great.
most people seemed to be there for the middle east.. think i enjoyed leader cheetah a bit more.. although i am a lot more familiar with their material
megastick fanfare were effing brillyant also.. really owned that shit
then got drunk at the capt spod show (which was all bella's fault.. mysteriously making 'free drink' tokens appear from nowhere)
spod crushed it, cuthbert were also impressive.. but damn it.. i am too old to be out causing a ruckus until the wee hours
... and i now have a mullet

I'm a ~*magician*~ ... and don't forget the free champagne that kept randomly appearing. we made jonny stay out til 4am you guys. haha.
all of the bands at the hopetoun were amazing. I was so impressed by maple trail, megastick are always brilliant, middle east were beautiful and I totally had a spiritual epiphany when leader cheetah played bloodlines. woooah.
doug from we say bamboulee was busy, he played with the maple trail and then backed it up at world bar. top effort dude.
BUT WHERE WAS GEM??!11

AND yes.. 4am.. actually was about 4.40am by the time i got home..
i think my favourite part of it was the fact i 'suddenly' realised it was 4am and just ran off..
that.. and trying to work out how far home was.. with a continual run of 3g/drunk issues

whenever there is excessive champagne going around i feel like i am in a rap video..

bella
yeah I didn't sleep til 6, got up at 8 or 9. ew.
there was an excessive amount of bling going around also... maybe we WERE in a rap video.
the moral of the story is: iphones are soooo pretty. at least, that's all I learned that night!

jonny did you run home?
sorry Bella I didn't make it... my excuse is good I promise... I was at a dinner for a friends farewell... she is going to Mongolia for a year and even though she is over 6 feet we are convinced she's going to meet a mongolian guy (who will no doubt be half her height) there and never come back... anyway, afterward a late dinner we went to the Townie, then the Townie time warp set it.. I realised I was suppose to be at Spod but it was too late...

bella
aww ok, you get off this time gem... I know how hard it is to leave the townie.

Jonny Yes Yes

I think guys in mongolia are short? yes? no? I don't know...
leaving the townie is near impossible... even for spod goodness
1 decade ago
Jonny Yes Yes
little Mr Ping Ping and Mr Xishun from Mongolia.. who was once the tallest man in the world (7' 9")..
1 decade ago
gemdilem

1 decade ago
Jonny Yes Yes
