Die! Die! Die! + Fait Accompli + Talons @ Spectrum
02/02/2007

I am not 18 anymore and super late nights when I get home as dawn is cracking is well and truly behind me. This said, as I have confessed countless numbers of times in the walls of this literary playground, if Die! Die! Die! are playing within a 50km radius of my home then I am liable to do things that I would normally pass over as stupid and/or file under "not a great idea".

die! die! Die!

So, last night, we got dropped off at about 11pm at the entrance to Oxford St, amongst bucks parties, drunken fools and shady characters, to attend Spectrum"s new super late once-a-month event, My Sydney Riot.

The crowd was a mixture of people left over from the Kat Frankie show, drunken dickheads who had discovered that Spectrum was going to be open super late and a few hardcore, dedicated people who like staying up late and get their brains exploded.

Talons took the stage first, at about midnight, and were probably one of the best unfamilar bands I have seen in a long while. They matched talent (speed drumming like speed metal band drummer!!!) with a touch of charisma and just a dash of 'well-dressed-ness'. They made me a fan, enough to maybe trek out to Annandale Hotel this Wednesday to see them play again (for FREE..).

Fait Accompli were up next, and although I have seen them before and think have definately played better, they were highly entertaining, especially playing to a packed house of, by this stage, drunken loats, who, I assume, were unfamilar with their songs.

Fait Accompli

It was about ten past two before the Die! kidds took the stage. And I would be lying if, even though I have seen them a shitload of times over the past 6 months, they didn"t, once again, blow me away. For those you have never had the pleasure of seeing them live, I can"t recommend them enough.

Even with the occasional wanker not understanding it was a punking kind of show and getting the shit after a little bump etc, and the jocked up drunk dudes left, right and centre dominating the 'whoooos', my enjoyment level in the show could not be shifted. Highly entertaining, even with the fact that they played mostly new-ish songs.

Using some logic of images worth a large mulitple of words...

Die! Die! Die!

Die! Die! Die!

(Some) of that isn"t blood as well, but make-up, as the night had some sort of strange halloween theme.

Die! Die! Die!

Die! Die! Die!

Die! Die! Die!

Die! Die! Die!

Reluctant encore to boot, with the drummer nowhere to be seen and the drummer for Fait Accompli stepping in for a fantastic, wild and slightly sloppy version of 'Out Of The Blue'. And it's all done. The stage was left in tatters, and was 3 in the morning.

And now back to the recovery position.
