Do you know the low life scumbags who stole DZ's guitar at Essential Festival?

Update: Atrocities officially address the alleged DZ guitar theft incident.

I have seen some pretty low things in my time (babies used as footballs etc) BUT this surely takes the cake.

At the recent Essential Festival, Brisbane punk duo DZ (only moments after playing an absolutely mind-blowing set) had their guitar stolen. Worse still is the fact that the band didn't actually own the guitar, they were borrowing it from someone else. Argh.

Luckily, justice (not the French electro bros) is on our side. Today a bunch of still shots from the CCTV cameras at Q Bar was released and has been circling around email land like a badly Photoshopped Jessica Simpson nipple slip. With the large number of peeps on the lookout (even The Mod Men have thrown their weight behind it) these 'coolsie bros' are surely going to feel the long fisting of Da Law very very soon.

So if you know any of the people in the photos below then please let us know. We will happily pass on the info to the band and/or the bounty hunter peeps we know (and probably give you a FREE t-shirt or something for being such a great human being as well).

just a bit of an update on this...

thanks to the emails that peeps have sent us regarding who the 'suspects' might be... oh yes, we should have probably pointed out that these guys are just 'suspects', right? legal hurdles?

the DZ boys emailed us a little bit after we posted this to let us know that they have now got the guitar back - or at least they will have it back shortly. it has been sorted out without drama, murder, beef etc. a nice end to a fairly shitty thing...

I was thinking when I read this "whats a bet it..." and yeh, my predictions are right.
I know who they are, but as it has been sorted, no names will be mentioned.

redfernrippa - you obviously don't know anything about spelling or grammar, way to go you made yourself sound like a delinquent. Perhaps read a little more literature and inject a little less smack.

Hazel- Jack is not in the footage, he does not associate with those people you should be sure of these things before you make outlandish claims and smear peoples names.
Ben is pictured one whole incident, not to say he couldn't have been aware of it however there are no grounds to prove it.

On the other hand there is no doubt that it is Jai Smith and Bear walking out with that guitar.
You think they would have learnt after they decided it was a good idea to let Bear drive Mick Dania's Car without a license then crash it.

Honestly could you get any lower?

Arrrghh!!

I am so sick of this shit. Jack is not in these fucking Photos!

all i keep hearing is about how everyone is going off the rails. My fucking band warhorse are drunks, atrocities are junkies and everyone else are junkie drunks. thats all i hear. blah blah blah blah blah. i remember a couple of years back when bands may not have been that respectful of each other (there was a massive element of bitching but that was about it, and lets face it there still is) now there are people talking shit, stealing shit and most importantly not DOING shit. I think we should all focus on making music and not anything else. Rock n Roll in Sydney is the best in the world. London, New York, Berlin, LA, Melbourne do not have shit on the bands in Sydney. The fact I can see Atrocities, The Laurels, Songs, Talons, Go Roll Your Bones, Belles Will Ring. Dead China Doll, Ghosts Of TV, Army Ant, Dolly rocker Movement, Redsunband, Circle Pit and so many other bands for like $10 is amazing. We have a duty to ourselves to be prolific and work hard and do what we are good at which is making music. Stealing shit, taking heroin, talking bullshit and not being supportive of each other is what is going to fuck us all up. I feel what bands in this city are capable of might fall apart if we don't focus on making music. I feel like I want to get the fuck out of here before things start getting a bit too real. Can we stop being such shit cunts and start making music that will defeat the enemy (looking at you anything the Brag likes)?

Anyway....The DZ affair is over. Everyone is happy. Lets forget it all and start working towards a musical utopia instead of a Surry Hills douchebag junkie gang bang.

Dearest Everyone in the Sydney and Greater Australian Music Community,

Recently our band was accused of deliberately taking (stealing) some gear from the Essential Festival and from the Oxford Arts Factory, and further openly accused of hocking said gear for drugs.

The guitar that was accidently taken from Essential Festival has been graciously returned. After we play shows we store our gear in a big pile and it was among the eight or so other guitars that we play and use. It was happily returned, and now because of everything that has been said, we have to bear the brunt of an innocent mistake. Something that sometimes happens when you get drunk and are trying to pack your gear away. We ourselves had some pedals go missing at said festival (still to be found), and though we have asked for some sort of investigation into it, we didn't go around throwing accusations and telling everyone that there are thieves in our midst.

Secondly, we'd like to offer a sincere apology to Allies. As you guys know, the amplifier that we borrowed got picked up by someone who wasnt even in our band who was helping pack our gear, and we are attempting to track it down. We do not want the amp, nor did we mean to take it. We hope that you could see on the weekend that we are as bummed out about this situation as you are, this is reflecting horribly on us as people and as a band. You will be contacted in the next few days about it. Sorry again.

Whether you trust us or not, these things were honest mistakes. One problem has been fixed, and one is in the process of being, having been performed by someone who had no idea which amps were ours.

Now, fair enough, if your gear goes missing you want to track it down, and fair enough you might assume that it had been stolen, but maybe you should also take into account the possibility that someone might have accidently picked it up. Maybe you should ask around in a non-aggressive manner before attempting to destroy a hard working bands reputation. We are good people. Maybe not the most sociable and well liked people as a whole, but good people nonetheless.

Sincerely
(Atrocities)

I dont think that many bands do smack in a collective way as it brings disaster , but the bad PR this has generated could kill this band , and has sullied the names of people not involved , this internet court is not a good thing , what if I had been walking down the stairs with them ? The only thing I dont get is why Q bar and the guitar ? The whole thing should done in private as to getting to the bottom of things , I thought our snare got nicked but the staff at the hopetown put it in the celler for safety , took me a day to find out .
