Splendour In The Grass 2011 line-up leaks?

Update (21:47): The White Stripes are still broken up.

Update (14:22): festival organisers released this statement to Triple J this afternoon:

Aside from the alleged artwork looking terrible at this point in time those speculating on (the) line up have got it way wrong.

Thanks PedoTV for the heads up and props for the "photoshop mix up tent" line. Thx-q.

Begin original pondering...

Via here and here and an email from an Anonymous Email Fiend/Legend.

First, the (slightly questionable) evidence:

For those of us with bad eyes, that's been translated down to:

Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Kanye West, The Cure, Sonic Youth, Fleet Foxes, Arctic Monkeys, The Avalanches, The Decemberists, The Presets, Weezer, PJ Harvey, The Church, Santigold, Robyn, Missy Higgins, Foster The People, The Black Keys, Bag Raiders, The Jezabels, Itch-e And Scratch-e, Tim And Jean, Big Scary, Jinja Safari, Wagons, Paul Simon, Pnau, The Living End, The Hives, Birds Of Tokyo, Battles, M83, Gotye, Ellie Goulding, The Panics, Janelle Monae, The Vacines, Royksopp, The Grates, Surfer Blood, Drapht, Grouplove, Tennis, James Blake, Panda Bear, Freelance Whales, Akron/Family, Sparkadia, Delta Spirit, The Naked & Famous, Esben & The Witch, Grace Woodroofe, Elbow, Seagull, Snowman, The Honey Month, Ball Park Music, Oh Mercy, Guineafowl, Seekae.

There's been plenty of speculation about the source over in those other two forum threads. Most notably - why such a shitty photo? vs why didn't the designer use obviously fake names instead?

For what it's worth, here's my two cents:

Weezerhead. I love that the Radiohead and Weezer rumours pop up every year NO MATTER WHAT. It's a tradition now. Like getting summer herpes from a girl with a temporary Southern Cross on her glazed face every Australia Day. It would feel strange if it didn't happen, right?

Believable headliners. There's been genuine talk of Kanye coming out to Australia for a festival since forever. Aside from the Big Day Out, Splendour is the only one that could afford him.

Believable second tier headliners. Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes and The Decemberists have all recently released albums. Win Butler from the Arcade Fire also mentioned returning to Australia in this interview last year with The Vine.

Reverse pull out bros. The Black Keys and Janelle Monae both recently pulled out of summer festivals with the promise of "returning to Australia really soon to soak up the sunshine, learn how to surf and meet Russell Crowe" [citation required].

Cool Blogspot Buzz BandsTM. James Blake, Panda Bear, Tennis, Drapht. The standard four or five bands/legends that would get the indie cuntheads all wet. Read: us. PS: fuck Tennis.

Marketing. Could this all be a stunt to drum up some early 'viral' 'online' promotion for the festival? Previous years' Web 0.01 efforts might say "FUCK NO!", but maybe they've got some clever interns over at Splendour HQ now, telling them which leavers do what. It's completely plausible this could be a mix of fake and real names leaked by the organisers so we would talk about it. If so, bravo. You got us/me.

I'm not a Betting Man so I'm not going to throw cash down on this either way. I predict there will be two simultaneous discussions as this spreads - the merits of the Leak and the the quality of the line-up. Feel free to drop your own opinion/s on either of those into the comments below.

Who could give a fuck? Festivals are the most overrated celebrations of mediocrity since NYE. 45 mins sets - bad sound - the fucked venues {anyone ever heard of a fucking amphitheatre??} - fuck 'em.
