#5: Unity Floors (Part 1)

When you think about it, it makes perfect sense that Unity Floors' rehearsal space is a tiny, mould-drenched spare room, deep in the outer-Sydney suburbs. It's a borrowed space, kindly donated by one of their Grandfathers, who is three-quarters deaf, yelling at the blaring television in the adjoining room. The house itself is packed with faded memories and small damaged slices of nostalgia, with the band themselves contributing to this chaotic collection of relics, their cramped room littered with various gig posters, discarded musical equipment and empty beer bottles. The house itself is about as far removed from it's smoggy metropolis parent as possible. Isolated from any sense of nowness, coolness or stress. In a simpler world, where the only real drama is walking in on your neighbours naked when you pop around with an apology six-pack of ales for "all that racket".

And Unity Floors just love making that racket. If faces could form cohesive sentences then surely the two smiling brain enclosures featured in that video above would literally turn your heart inside out with the ridiculous volume of positivity extracted. Unity Floors remain (probably) the nicest two fellas to ever pick up a guitar and some sticks, loving every moment in which they're performing and unashamedly displaying that joy. Here they are performing the unreleased-instant-classic Nice Fit. And having a bloody blast doing so.

Sadly, Unity Floors are jetting off overseas very very soon to explore the inner regions of Europe before it gets swallowed up once and for all by the Recession They Had To Have. They'll be playing a Farewell Show tonight (June 12) at the Flinders Hotel, Flinders Street, Flinderton, Sydney.
