Bearhug
Montreal

Bearhug originally came to the attention of us/the world after their track Snow Leopard was included on the Spunk Singles Club compilation earlier in the year. This was followed shortly after by Cartoon Cannibal, which has been enjoying steady rotation on FBi for a little while now. Both tracks (and six other equally lovely tunes) feature on an EP of demo recordings entitled Cartoon Islands, which you can download for FREE here. The band are planning to record their debut record in the second half of the year with Ivan from Ghoul "if he will have [them]". Do it, Ivan.

From the demo EP it's hard to pick a standout track, however, Montreal seems to cover the majority of the group's sound. Ol' fashioned gusto and a touch of fragility sit side by side like "it ain't no thang", with a great overpowering sense of natural momentum also playing a key role in the song's joyous path. Like all of those featured on the EP, there is a feeling that a lot is happening within this song, yet it also doesn't feel at all cluttered or overcrowded. The band really do strike the perfect balance between these two sides.

You can catch Bearhug playing around the place over the next few weeks/months. The August 6 show at Da OAF with Seekae, megastick fanfare, Ghoul and Parades looks especially 'un-fucking-missable'.
