Rhythm-n-blues (at least in the popular modern bedroom re-incarnation) has always sounded best in this bare-everything, stripped back format. The large spaces of emptiness filled out by default with your mind's own reactions to the emotive tones in-between and the passionate, eyes-closed embrace mostly left in solitary, with no barries, glitches or little jerks of music to help you from falling deep in.
